An Edwardian dressed nanny living in modern New York takes a job to care for a child locked in by trauma. Pepper Braun is a modern day Mary Poppins who lives by an Edwardian code of ethic, which is dramatically opposite to the Mafia family into which she now works. Luc Campion is a professional solicitor, mafia boss, who owns most businesses in New York. After his wife committed suicide a year ago, he is left a single father to a five year old who cannot speak but signs. Simeon was an unwanted baby by his mother, who drank herself to death when he was four, left traumatised and isolated he withdraws within himself to hide from a world that he thinks does not want him. His father cannot communicate with him, and relies upon nannies to raise his son. Luc finds his good looks and wealth become a magnet to young nannies desires. Luc Campion is furious when he discovers who his secretary has employed to be the latest nanny and he is less than kind to Pepper, who refuses to be bullied by an absent parent, thus begins a relationship that see-saws between the two adults, Luc is curious but hostile, Pepper is professional but confused. After she has a terrible accident, Luc realises the relationship she has with his son is far more important than his opinion of her. Due to many various incidents Pepper becomes entangled in Mafia life and learns that whilst there is a violent side there is also a very tender side, taught to her by the retired Don Giovanni Campion (Lucs adopted father). Luc learns that Pepper is a unique woman who reminds his family what it is to be both a gentle man or woman.
